Consider Electronic Health Records Management Training For a Career With a Future

With technology advancing every day, it's no surprise that business processes are changing along with it. Every industry is constantly adapting to the latest equipment that can best assist organizational efficiency in their particular industry. The healthcare field is especially quick to embrace any new improvement that will help save patients' money, time and, of course, lives.

Health records have long been maintained to keep track of patients' information to ensure they obtain continuity of care. With the new changes in both technology and insurance, these records are more vital than ever to the success of the healthcare facility and improvement of patient outcomes. For this reason, those with health records management training are in high demand.

Managing Electronic Health Records is a highly valued skill

Statistics abound concerning the value of health records managers in the work force right now .The U.S. Department of Labor predicts a 22% increase in career opportunities for medical records and health information technicians through 2022. That translates to 227,500 job openings for professionals with the proper training.

Not only that, but a new study by the Harvard School of Public Health says hospitals nearly tripled their use of electronic health records systems between 2010 and 2012. According to the study, the number of doctors using at least a basic EHR system increased from 25% to 40% in those two years.

EHR helps patients too!

The rise in electronic health records careers doesn't just mean good news for those looking to enter the career field. This switch to online technology is great for the patients too. Having their health records easily accessible online means less mistakes are made when their records transfer to different healthcare facilities or physicians. It also means what's on their records is more accurate.

Also, because the records don't have to be printed on tons of paper, these new electronic health records tend to cost less for the patient as well. In fact, an article by US News says that simply putting the health records on the computer can cut patients' out of pocket healthcare costs by 3%.  That may not sound like a significant amount, but with as much as it can cost to go to a doctor, have tests done or get a prescription, 3% can really add up!

And even now, technology continues to adapt. Health Records Management training will only lead to more careers and more opportunities as the technology continues to advance. And if you receive your training from Ashworth College, you'll be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association's Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS™) exam. Having that certification makes you even more valuable to future employers.

So now is the perfect time to begin preparing for an in-demand, valuable and highly sought-after career. Why wait?
