Frequently asked questions

Find answers to the most commonly asked questions about Ashworth College’s career programs.

The differences between a certificate, diploma, and a degree are often how long it takes to complete and what level of education it is. Career certificates and career diploma programs are designed to provide you with specialized training in a specific field or help you develop a specific skill. There are many careers that do not require college degrees but may require you to have hands-on training or other proof of experience. This is where online career school training programs are valuable. Because they can be completed in a few months, certificates and diplomas are a faster and less-expensive way to prepare for a job, study for a promotion, or even learn a hobby.

College degrees, however, often take at least two years to complete and involve both career-focused classes and general education classes.

Not every job requires a degree. For those jobs that require some post-high school training or technical school, enrolling in a career school can be your best bet! Requirements and prerequisites for career school programs can vary based on several factors, but the most common requirement before enrolling is a high school diploma or equivalent. Other requirements can include minimum age requirements or background checks. If you’re not sure you meet the prerequisites to enroll in the career training program you’re interested in, reach out to our admissions department with any questions at 1-800-957-5412.

That depends. For careers that require only a certificate or diploma, yes, you will be ready for your job hunt right away! However, some careers may require professional certification outside of earning a diploma or degree. To become certified, you may need to sit for industry-specific certification exams before you can qualify for jobs in the field. This mostly applies to para-professional fields like healthcare, law, or education and also depends on state regulations.
