Nelsenia Spencer knew flexibility was a must for her if she was going to further her education as an adult. Ashworth College, which offers a range of online career and college programs was exactly what she needed. Here’s how she found success as an Ashworth College graduate.

On August 3rd, we celebrated the accomplishments of Ashworth College and James Madison High School graduates at our annual commencement ceremony. While you may think that, as an online student, you won’t have the opportunity to walk across the stage and make your family and friends proud, we’re happy to say that students come from all over to participate. We were also proud to hear from one particular student, Cristy, our 2019 Outstanding Graduate of the Year. Here’s how she made her online education work for her to reach her career goals.

As an online learner, celebrating your success with classmates may seem out of reach. Not at Ashworth. We commemorate our students’ triumphs and seal the deal on their educational journey with a victorious walk across the stage. Each year, students and their families and friends come together to celebrate our favorite day of the year, graduation! This year’s ceremony was held at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on August 3. Our alumni inspire us daily—especially when we stumble across career success! We are thrilled to share that Ashworth College graduate Cindy Gardepe, from our Human Resource Administration program, received the prestigious Sally Dean award as the Director of Human Resources at UHS Delaware Valley Hospital.

Terrence Jones of Raleigh, North Carolina, should have been a concert pianist. In fact, he graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Music degree in performance piano from Virginia State University. But there was one small problem.

“I walked the stage and got my degree, but I never actually finished my recital,” Terrence laughs today. “I completed all the coursework, but hey, it’s difficult to memorize an hour-long recital and then play it for an audience from memory.”
