Real Estate Law Career Certificate Orientation  

In this course, you’ll examine the goals and values of Ashworth College, time management, creating a realistic weekly and monthly study schedule, the nature and purpose of assessments, how to study effectively to prepare for and take an online examination, and developing the skill sets necessary for success in the twenty-first century. You’ll also review the fundamental concepts and processes concerning federal and state laws and court systems, as well as careers in the legal and criminal justice fields.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to do the following:

  • Identify skills needed to be a confident and independent online learner.
  • Explain fundamental concepts and processes concerning federal and state laws and court systems.

Lesson Group 1: Real Estate Law  

In this course, you’ll learn about real estate law terminology and its origins. Then, you’ll explore common issues that arise in real estate law, such as concurrent ownership; landlord-tenant situations; common interest communities; and property transfers, sales, closings, developments, and investments. You’ll also review the rights, duties, and restrictions to real property and differentiate among titles, deeds, and mortgages.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to do the following:

  • Recognize real estate law terminology and its origins.
  • Describe issues that arise in real estate law, such as concurrent ownership; landlord-tenant situations; common interest communities; and property transfers, sales, closings, developments, and investments.
  • Identify the rights, duties, and restrictions to real property.
  • Compare titles, deeds, and mortgages.

Program Description

The Real Estate Law certificate program is designed to provide you with the knowledge of real estate law fundamentals. You’ll familiarize yourself with the issues and topics that concern professional paralegals involved in real estate law, such as ownership, tenants, transfers, titles, deeds, development, investment, and more.

Program Objectives

After completing the Real Estate Law certificate program, you’ll be able to do the following:

  1. Differentiate real estate law from other types of law and explain how this legal area impacts the daily lives of most Americans.
  2. Identify and explain important concepts in real estate law, including real property, the general laws of land ownership and real estate transactions, title examinations and methods of title transfer, sales contracts and the sales process, real estate financing options, and the closing/settlement process.
  3. Explain the roles and responsibilities of the paralegal, as well as the ethical standards to be demonstrated, while assisting a real estate law attorney.
