An introduction to the personal and professional characteristics of an effective medical assistant, the various work environments available to a medical assistant, and day-to-day duties and responsibilities involved in both back and front office assisting.
An introduction to the concepts of word elements and combining and to some basic medical terminology.
An introduction to the major medical insurance programs, procedural and diagnostic coding, and the procedures to fill out and file an insurance claim form.
An introduction to the guidelines for the personal safety and well-being of staff and patients, and the recommended universal and standard precautions in the healthcare field.
The laws, ethics and standards in place that protect patients as well as healthcare workers. You will learn about the various types of malpractice, what a patient must do to prove that malpractice has occurred, and how, as a healthcare worker, you can protect your employer and yourself.

The Medical Office Assistant: Administrative Procedures career certificate program provides students with an introduction to the administrative activities of a private medical practice, hospital office, or clinic department. Students learn how to schedule appointments, follow OSHA standards and universal precautions, differentiate between government and commercial health insurance programs, maintain patient records, ensure HIPAA compliance, perform billing and coding duties, and follow typical office management procedures.
After completing the Medical Office Assistant – Administrative Procedures certificate program, students will be able to:
