Our History

Ashworth College evolved from a humble start in 1987, when it was a family-owned school offering a single course in real estate appraisal. The course was so popular that the founders knew they had filled a widespread need for high quality, career-focused distance learning. Thus, Professional Career Development Institute (PCDI) was born.

A Pioneer in Distance Learning

New distance learning courses were added and enrollments increased rapidly. In 1996, James Madison High School, a SACS-accredited online high school, became a part of the PCDI family. In 2000, we introduced online associate degree programs, followed by master's degree programs in 2004 and bachelor's degree programs in 2007. As a reflection of our leadership role in online education and our broad selection of distance learning courses, all programs merged as part of Ashworth College.

Ashworth College is proud to acknowledge that we have more than 300,000 alumni across the United States and around the world. Ashworth College is also the first accredited online school in Georgia to receive a Delta Epsilon Tau National Honor Society charter. More than 2,000 Ashworth College and James Madison High School graduates have been inducted into this international honor society.
