Ashworth College was founded in 1987 as Professional Career Development Institute (PCDI) and in 1988 graduated its first nine students. PCDI quickly became a premier, nationally accredited provider of distance learning courses for those seeking vocational education.
In 1996, James Madison High School, a SACS-accredited online high school, became a part of the PCDI family. In 2000, we introduced online associate degree programs, followed by master’s degree programs in 2004 and bachelor’s degree programs in 2007. As a reflection of our leadership role in online education and our impressive selection of career training distance learning courses and degree programs, all programs merged under the Ashworth College umbrella.
By 2007, Ashworth College boasted nearly a million graduates. We became a military-friendly school, ensuring that service members, their spouses and veterans can maximize their military education benefits. Ashworth College is also the first accredited online school in Georgia to receive a Delta Epsilon Tau National Honor Society charter. More than 2,000 Ashworth College and James Madison High School graduates have been inducted into this international honor society.
