Program Description

The Physical Therapy Aide Career Diploma is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required of the physical therapy aide. Students will learn about career opportunities, ethical and legal issues, and communication and recordkeeping skills concerning physical therapy aides. Then, students will learn physical therapy practice areas and success strategies.

Program Objectives

After completing the Physical Therapy Aide program, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and differentiate the roles and responsibilities of the members of the rehabilitative team as they apply to the physical therapy aide.
  2. Summarize the process of patient interaction required of physical therapy aides including legal and ethical issues, communications, and patient records.
  3. Describe the process for specialized patient examinations, including pain assessment and data collection, and explain how a plan of care is developed based on the examination findings.
  4. Identify and discuss the six physical therapy practice areas and the various treatments, exercises, and interventions used in each area.
  5. Describe learning strategies and resources available for students of physical therapy and identify career development and lifelong learning opportunities in the physical therapy field.
