Ashworth College, a leading online school, has expanded its Pharmacy Technician certification preparation training to include an externship experience for each student in a local pharmacy such as Walgreens. In addition, Ashworth will provide each student the opportunity to interact with a personal mentor who is a Certified Pharmacy Technician.
The online college offers all graduates of the Pharmacy Tech Training program the opportunity to sit for the National Healthcareer Association CPhT Certification exam. "The on-the-job experience that our students gain in the externship, combined with one-on-one mentoring and earning certification, assures our graduates they can successfully help meet the growing demand for trained, experienced pharmacy technicians," said Lisa Rutsky, M.Ed., Ashworth College Vice President of Education." Rutsky went on to cite U.S. Department of Labor statistics which indicate growth in career opportunities in the pharmaceutical industry. "It's estimated that by 2022, employment as a pharmacy technician will rise by 20%, translating to 70,700 career positions."

Ashworth recently recognized that passing the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam would better enable graduates to meet applicable pharmacy technician licensing requirements in Arizona, California, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming. In response, Ashworth College now includes PTCB exam prep materials and the PTCB exam as part of the program.
