PEACHTREE CORNERS, Georgia – December 5, 2012 – In the days leading up to the winter holidays, Ashworth College, a leading online school, is sponsoring a food drive to support the Atlanta Community Food Bank.
Since 2006, the Peachtree Corners-based institution has regularly participated in the drive, with administration and staff donating non-perishable food and grocery items that is in turn distributed among the Atlanta Community Food Bank's 600 plus non-profit partner agencies that support local low-income families. In 2011, Ashworth College's (https://www.ashworthcollege.edu/) efforts yielded 800 pounds. Ashworth is on track to exceed this amount for the 2012 drive.
"As an active member of the local community, Ashworth is committed to doing its part in helping to raise awareness for the issues of hunger that impacts local families," said Rob Klapper, President of Ashworth College. "These families deserve all the tools necessary to succeed and sometimes that simply includes assistance with food and grocery items."
Throughout the year, Ashworth College supports a number of causes including Habitat for Humanity, Children's Miracle Network, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and March of Dimes.
Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank distributes almost 2 million pounds of food and other donated grocery items each month to more than 600 nonprofit partner agencies in 29 counties across Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. Distributing these donations to low-income Georgians, partner agencies provide links between the local community, the Food Bank and its supporters.
