HVAC training offers hands-on experience that gives you the tools and confidence you need to become an HVAC technician. But some people are better suited for the role than others. Think you’re ready for the HVAC life? Take this short quiz to see if you have what it takes!

Answer YES to the questions below that sound like you:

  1. I like my eggs in the morning boiled for exactly 5 minutes and 37 seconds.
  2. Few things make me happier than an IKEA splurge. I’m building furniture till dawn!
  3. Nothing rattles me. I can be in a rear-end collision while dealing with an irate customer on the phone and remain cheerful, composed, and focused.
  4. It’s 2 PM. I get a call from my out-of-state buddy whom I haven’t seen for years. He missed his connecting flight and is stuck at the airport. I’m there in 20 minutes to pick him up.
  5. My air conditioner is broken. I’m YouTubing how to fix it.

If you answered YES to more than three of these questions--welcome. You have the right mindset to become a successful HVAC technician.

Here’s the key to the questions above:

  1. EGGS: Details matter to an HVAC technician. There might be a hidden elbow joint in the back that had a leak so you need to look at everything thoroughly.
  2. IKEA: An HVAC technician will likely get down and dirty, so if you enjoy hours on end spent working with your hands and building things, you’ll likely enjoy the work of an HVAC tech.
  3. STRESS: Refrigerant might be gushing out and your client is yelling in your ear with an eight-month old who is about to crawl into the mess of fluids. You need to be able to think on your feet and deal with everything that comes at you all at once, all while keeping a professional manner.
  4. AIRPORT: You’re reliable. As an HVAC technician, you have a huge responsibility. Systems break down and people’s lives may be in danger. It’s you to the rescue.
  5. YOUTUBE: Last but not least, you love fixing things. Not just that, you want to learn how systems work, how to improve things, and you’ll probably just try to build something on your own from scratch.

Sound like you? Being HVAC tech involves hard work and dedication, but for many people, it’s a rewarding career. Ashworth College offers an online degree to prepare you for an HVAC certification. Call us at 1-800-957-5412 with all of your questions or enroll today!
