Online Learning Articles

The Online Educated are Landing the Job.

Employers say accredited online degrees demonstrate initiative and other crucial qualities. "It says you're a rising star. It shows self-discipline and a strong work ethic," says Susan Marston, technical recruiter. There's no doubt a single course can open doors to your next big thing.

A person with a Master's Degree, statistically, has a significantly higher income than someone with a Bachelor's Degree. This barrier to a higher salary has been eliminated through online education. With the help of accredited learning institutions like Ashworth College, advanced degrees are no longer just for the privileged few.

The fact that:

  • Students no longer have to graduate with an average of 19k* in student loans.
  • A young mother can get her Master's Degree by turning her home into a classroom.
  • Low per-credit prices combined with monthly payments can be as low as $200.
  • Employers look positively upon candidates who have overcome great odds to receive an education.
  • Many affordable online degree programs are fully accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council and openly accepted by employers.

Hiring managers who frown on online degrees are few and far between. However, you should expect to field some questions about it during your interview. Here's where you can really shine. Tell them about how you made a commitment to yourself, then followed through. Feed them a heaping helping of your drive to succeed. And outline how the experience helped you better manage precious resources, like time and money.

There are some pitfalls to online degrees. A few disreputable institutions exist. But employers respect an accredited program, so it's essential you go to a name-brand institution like Phoenix, Ashworth College, etc. Otherwise, you can be left with a piece of paper that's deemed worthless by employers. So remember, no accreditation equals not something you want to do.

When a job candidate believes in their education, it shows. Whether that education took place on a campus or in your living room, while in your bathrobe. Getting an online degree takes intelligence, self-discipline and fortitude. And employers know it. It's little wonder the online educated are joining the workforce in large numbers. And doing it in their chosen careers, on their own terms.
