Here are a few of the Information Technology career opportunities available to Ashworth College's Technology Program graduates:
Computer Programmer
Are you good with puzzles? Programmers put the pieces together to solve real world challenges. For instance, a business may need to monitor how much fuel their airplanes are using per hour. You figure out how that can be calculated. And then, use a programming language to teach the computer how to calculate it. For people that get jazzed about this kind of career, that aspect of it can be really fun. Once the basic program is written then it's on to debugging. This usually entails looking at number-filled screens and trying to figure out which ones are incorrect. As programming tools continually advance, this gets easier. However, it does mean that you'll be constantly uploading new information to your brain.
Systems Analyst
What's the best way to enable a person who works from home to connect with his company database? How can a computer system enable all the employees, suppliers and vendors to work together more effectively? How can three different computer systems communicate? The Systems Analyst, working with programmers and managers, comes up with answers to these kinds of problems. You may not be a hardcore programmer but you need some online skills in programming, networking hardware, software and data modeling. Another important skill is to be able to explain complexities in simple terms everyone can understand.
Computer Repair Technician
As products become ever more computerized, from an MRI scanner to the washing machine, there's a growing demand for people to repair them. It's a good paying gig with a work environment that's relatively stress-free. It also offers the opportunity to use your noggin when it comes to diagnosing problems. And when you fix their electronic, a/c or doodad, they'll love-ya!
Network Security
Authorities consider computer systems a bona-fide terrorist target. And then there are hackers who can steel information from computers, both from inside and outside an organization. This produces an ever-growing demand for security programmers to combat these clever thieves. Also, corporations, the FBI and the Dept. of Justice hire these cyber sheriffs to search the net for all kinds of software piracy violators.
