Health care is the fastest growing segment of the U.S. economy. Imagine working closely with doctors, nurses and other health providers.

Are you ready to for important work and earning good money helping others?

The answer could be:

Here are some of the career opportunities available to Ashworth College's Health Care Program graduates:

Medical Transcriptionist

Medical record-keeping is a major component of the healthcare industry. After each patient visit, a physician dictates notes into a digital tape recorder. Medical transcriptionists listen to the recordings and type them up to be added into the patient's medical file, as a permanent record of the details of every patient visit. The process of medical transcription saves time for physicians and aims to prevent errors caused by illegible handwriting. Flexibility of schedule is a major plus for this profession. If you are seeking a job where you can telecommute from home, medical transcription could be an excellent choice.

Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants help with a variety of tasks including checking patients in, taking vital signs, and medical record-keeping such as updating and filing charts. Medical Assistants also may give shots, and some help with medical billing and insurance coding. Most medical assistants work in a doctor's office, and some work in hospitals.

Geriatric Care Manager

For people with aging parents in Florida, while they live in New Jersey, the need exists for good people to help them deal with the health care system. Whether it's finding someone to look in on them or completing paper work. How do you take care of your parents when you're not nearby? The answer is to hire a Geriatric Care Manager. Many are self-employed. But increasingly hospitals and HMOs are hiring them full-time.

Cancer Registrar

Because most cancers don't have a cure, many different treatment protocols are tried for each type of cancer. It's employs a scientific method of figuring out what works best for whom. For example, you can create and draw upon a database of treatments that worked for Hispanic women in their 60s. Most HMOs, insurance companies and government agencies have a need for that. And the person leading the charge is the Cancer Registrar.

Heart/Lung Profusionist

In Open-Heart surgery, the surgeon can't work on the heart without a Profusionist. With the help of a machine, circulation continues during surgery despite having the heart relatively blood free. This is needed so the surgeon can work. One mistake can be too many for a bypass patient. Only calm people with a high-tolerance for stress do well. This is one of those careers where you're intimately involved in saving people's lives. Prepare for some "hearty" thank-yous.

Pharmacist

Being a pharmacist is about a lot more than just filling prescriptions. You're often a health-care provider on the front-line. A day in the life might include teaching a diabetic how to inject themselves; assisting someone with blood-pressure monitoring. And ensuring that people know how to take their medications as some people must take multiple kinds. Each of which must be taken at a different time and some on an empty stomach and some after food. People with this career enjoy being a real lifesaver.
