Pharmacy Technician Careers

Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and assume many of the vital technical and administrative responsibilities related to drug dispensing. There's plenty to do as a pharmacy technician such as:

  • Measuring and counting medications
  • Getting physician authorizations
  • Calling insurance carriers
  • Tracking inventory
  • Updating account information
  • Printing prescription labels
  • Preparing third-party billing statements
  • Ordering OTC medications

In the more than 50,000 pharmacies across America, more than three-billion prescriptions are filled annually. Our expanding elderly population, along with the ever-increasing quantity and variety of available drug treatments, should result in rising demand for both prescription and over-the-counter medications. This means great job prospects are in store for pharmacy technicians.
