Many medical transcriptionists telecommute from home-based offices as subcontractors for hospitals and transcription services or as self-employed independent contractors. They stay busy transcribing for:
- Research laboratories
- Imaging departments
- Doctors' and dentists' offices
- Transcription services
- Public and private hospitals
- Community clinics and emergency facilities
- HMOs
Employment of medical transcriptions in private medical practices and hospitals is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2012. Job growth will be spurred by the steady increase in our aging population which is generating an increasing volume of medical treatments, tests and procedures.
