Program Outline

The Introduction to Financial Statements Course is comprised of 10 comprehensive lessons. They are easy to follow, yet challenging and stimulating at the same time. Each lesson begins with a subject matter preview and objectives, an introductory note from your instructor and a vocabulary builder of new words and terms.

Next comes the reading assignment. Practice exercises help you check and review what you've learned. At the end of the lesson is an open-book exam, which you may take online.

Lesson 4: Budgets, Manufacturing and Analysis of a Company

Budgeting and Planning; Budget Reporting; Manufacturing and Construction; Enterprise Analysis.

Lesson 5: Overview of Financial Statements

Map or Maze; Volume of Information; Complexity; Quality of Financial Reporting.

Lesson 6: The Balance Sheet

Financial Condition; Assets; Liabilities; Stockholders' Equity.

Lesson 7: Income Statement and Statement of Stockholders' Equity

The Income Statement; Statement of Stockholders' Equity; Earnings Quality, Inflation, Cash Flow, Segmental Accounting.

Lesson 8: The Statement of Cash Flows

Preparing a Statement of Cash Flows; Calculating Cash Flow From Operating Activities; Cash Flow From Investing and Financing Activities; Change in Cash; Analyzing the Statement of Cash Flows.

Lesson 9: Reporting Quality

Using the Checklist; What Are the Real Earnings? Quality of Financial Reporting: The Balance Sheet and The Statement of Cash Flows.

Lesson 10: Ratio Analysis

Objective Analysis; Sources of Information; Tools and Techniques; Analyzing the Data.

No prerequisites. However, we recommend students have at least high school diploma, good general math skills and computer literacy.
