Exams and Grading
High School
The grading scale is as follows: A = 90-100; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; D = 65-69; and F = 64 and below. Minimum passing grade is 65. Exam retakes are allowed in the correspondence curriculum but not in the online curriculum.
Career Courses
At the conclusion of each of your lessons, you'll take an open book, multiple- choice achievement exam. Some courses may require the submission of essays; others provide for hands-on projects that you complete at your option.
The grading scale is as follows: A = 90-100; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; below 70 is failing. You may retake any exams for which you receive less than 70 points; if passed, you'll receive the minimum passing grade of 70 points.
Associate Degree
At the conclusion of each lesson, you'll take an open-book exam. Multiple-choice exams are available online. A timed, open-book, proctor-supervised exam is given at the end of each semester. An administrative fee may apply. A proctored exam is also required for each course for which you seek exemption due to life experience credit. Grade values are: A (Excellent) = 4 points; B (Good) = 3 points; C (Average) = 2 points; D (Poor) = 1 point; F (Failing) = 0 points.
Bachelor's Degree
Each course contains one or more online multiple-choice exams. At the conclusion of each course, you will take an online final exam. A timed, open-book, proctor-supervised exam is given at the end of each semester. A proctored exam is also required for each course for which you seek exemption due to life experience credit. An administrative fee will apply for each proctored exam. Grade values are: A (Excellent) = 4 points; B (Good) = 3 points; C (Average) = 2 points; D (Poor) = 1 point; F (Failing) = 0 points.
Master's Degree
Each course consists of a Vocabulary Exam and six activity-based assignments that include discussion questions and a project. Assignments are submitted via our secure website. A Mid-Program Exam and Capstone Exam, are proctored. Grade values are A (Excellent) = 90-100; B (Good) = 80-89; C (Average) = 70-79. To remain in Academic Good Standing, you must maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and earn the minimum grade of C in no more than two courses.
For degree programs, to remain in academic good standing, you must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and earn a grade of at least C in all CORE courses in a degree program.
