Term Enrollment
Term enrollment courses have a specified registration period and set start and end dates. Courses begin on the first Monday of each month for 12 start dates in a year. The duration of each course is 8 weeks, and students must complete all lesson assignments and exams within this period. Course Components & Requirements:
- Each course is eight (8) weeks in duration and consists of eight (8) weekly lessons/modules.
- Each lesson consists of lecture notes, review questions, one (1) multiple-choice exam, and one (1) threaded discussion.
- Students are required to take a multiple-choice exam and participate in a threaded discussion each week.
- All lesson tasks must be completed during the week in which the lesson is assigned – no later than Sunday midnight (for a Monday-Sunday week).
- The weekly lesson grade will be posted by the course Instructor no later than three (3) days past the lesson completion deadline.
- The final course grade is submitted within seven (7) calendar days of course completion.
Threaded Discussions:
- Each course requires students to participate in weekly threaded discussions initiated and led by the Course Instructor.
- Threaded discussions consist of a topic statement or question posted by the Instructor that students should research and respond to – a typical response to an Instructor statement/question should consist of 150-200 words in a single-spaced format.
- Responses should be well researched and appropriately worded and should reflect analytical and critical thinking skills.
- During the course of a week, students are required to post two (2) responses to the Instructor within the threaded discussion assigned for that week – the first response must be posted by midnight on Thursday; the second response must be posted by midnight on Sunday.
- Threaded discussions will be monitored by Instructors every two (2) days with feedback provided to students each week.
- At the end of each week, student participation in the threaded discussions will be graded (based on the quality of responses) and posted to individual student accounts.
- Participation in the threaded discussions is mandatory and the grades earned/posted will count towards the overall course grade. The grade distribution information (for multiple-choice exams and threaded discussions) will be posted under the Course Syllabus section at the beginning of each course.
Attendance & Participation Policies:
- Student attendance & participation in courses is determined by timely completion of tasks within each lesson – these include completion of multiple-choice exams and participation in weekly threaded discussions as outlined in the threaded discussion section above.
- When students fail to complete course/lesson tasks in a timely manner, they will be contacted by the Course Instructor to determine the cause for non-participation in the course. In extenuating circumstances, students will be given a grace period of three (3) days past the lesson due date to complete the tasks for that particular lesson.
- Failure to complete lesson tasks (multiple-choice exams and threaded discussion posts) in a timely manner will affect the overall course grade, resulting in a lower or failing grade in the course.
- Students are expected to finish all coursework within the eight (8) week timeframe specified for each course. In extenuating circumstances, students may submit a written course extension request to the office of the Registrar. Extension requests must be submitted after week 6 and before the end-date for a course. A 4-week course extension may be granted at the discretion of the Dean and students must complete all remaining coursework by the revised course end-date.
- Students who do not complete all course work by the course end-date (or the revised end-date in cases where an extension has been granted) will be given a course grade based on actual coursework submitted against the total course requirements.
Course Add/Drop Policy:
- Students may drop a course and enroll in an alternative course by submitting an Add/Drop request to the office of the Registrar at any time during the open registration period for the course being dropped. Approval of each add/drop request is at the discretion of the Ashworth Registrar.
- A new Enrollment Agreement will be processed for the added course and the student will be responsible for tuition on the new course.
Course Drop/Withdrawal Policy & Refunds:
- A student who wishes to drop or withdraw from a course should submit a formal Course Drop/Withdrawal Request Form. The Drop/Withdrawal date will be the date the form was received by the Registrar's office.
- Tuition refunds for dropped/withdrawn courses will be calculated as follows:
- Prior to the start date of the course, 100% of the tuition will be refunded.
- During Week 1, 80% of the tuition will be refunded.
- During Week 2, 60% of the tuition will be refunded.
- During Week 3, 40% of the tuition will be refunded.
- During Week 4, 20% of the tuition will be refunded.
- After Week 4, 0% of the tuition will be refunded.
