You'll also review the fundamental concepts and processes concerning federal and state laws and court systems, as well as careers in the legal and criminal justice fields.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Explain fundamental concepts and processes concerning federal and state laws and court systems.

Lesson Group 1: Civil Litigation Fundamentals  

In this course, you'll explore the paralegal's role in civil litigation. You'll learn about paralegals' responsibilities and ethical obligations and review court procedures, rules, technologies, and documentation. Then, you'll explore aspects of civil litigation – such as discovery – more in depth. You'll also explore different types of alternative dispute resolution and learn how to prepare for trial and file an appeal.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Identify the responsibilities and ethical obligations of the paralegal in civil litigation.
  • Summarize the procedures of the court concerning civil trials and appeals.
  • Describe the purposes and rules of discovery.
  • Differentiate between types of alternative dispute resolutions.

Program Description

The Civil Litigation certificate program is designed to provide students with the fundamental knowledge of civil litigation proceedings. Students will learn the various aspects of civil litigation procedures before, during, and after trial.

Program Objectives
