United States Army First Sergeant joins Ashworth College Staff
NORCROSS, Georgia – August 17, 2010 – Ashworth College, a leading provider of accredited, online education programs, announced today that First Sergeant (retired) Rodney Butler has been appointed Military Education Coordinator. Butler brings more than 21 years of active duty service experience to his new role at Ashworth (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/military).
Retired from the United States Army as a First Sergeant (1SG/E-8), Butler has worked as a public school educator in metro Atlanta. His responsibilities will include representing Ashworth College on military installations across the United States. In addition to forming relationships with Education Services Officers, he will have the opportunity to meet with both active duty and military spouses who are currently enrolled with Ashworth.
A combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm/Shield and Operation Iraqi/Enduring Freedom, Butler is a Cold War and Global War on Terrorism veteran and served in a support effort during Operation Just Cause. He has held all noncommissioned officer leadership positions commensurate to his rank, serving in several of the Army's most prestigious combat divisions including: the 82nd Airborne Division, the 25th Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Division/3rd Brigade, and 1st Infantry Division.

His military background, particularly as it relates to his personal experiences as an educator and as a distance education student, will help to ensure that Ashworth continues to rise in prominence among active duty Soldiers, military spouses and veterans,” said Melissa Maddox, Ashworth Military Education Manager.
Throughout his military career, Butler attended numerous professional and leadership schools and completed his civilian education through the Army Continuing Education System, earning both Associate and Bachelor's degrees. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree with plans to graduate December 2010.
Butler is married with two daughters and a three year old Yorkshire terrier. In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, ping-pong, most contact sports, everything NFL, reading, and blogging.About Ashworth College
