Distance education leader Ashworth College to participate in local Habitat for Humanity build

NORCROSS, Georgia – July 22, 2010 – For the second consecutive year, Ashworth College and its student chapter is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity of North Central Georgia to make a difference in the local community and in lives of one local family.

Ashworth (http://www.ashworthcollege.edu), a leader in online education, will help build a Habitat for Humanity home located in Alpharetta, GA. Efforts will help to make home ownership a reality for a local family.

The build is part of Ashworth's 2010 Graduation weekend activities. A group of Ashworth employee and student volunteers will kick-off this community outreach effort by working on the construction of the home. Approximately 15 Ashworth staff, instructors, graduates, and students are expected to volunteer on this day.

The team of workers will be joined by Ashworth Instructor and Graduation Ceremony keynote speaker, Dr. Nicole Detling-Miller - 2010 U.S. Winter Olympic Speed Skating Team Sport Psychologist. Dr. Miller is currently the Chief Instructor and Subject Matter Expert for the School of Sports Psychology at Ashworth College.

In addition to helping build the home, the Ashworth College Campus Chapter, Habitat's first at distance education institution, will present Habitat with a financial contribution during a reception at the build site. Those contributions come directly from Ashworth staff and student donations from all over the world. Habitat will use the money toward costs associated with building homes, such as purchasing land and building materials.

"Ashworth is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we work and live," said Gary M. Keisling, Ashworth College Chairman and CEO. "We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity to help hard working families fulfill their dreams and provide them with the opportunity to own a home."

As a leader in distance education, Ashworth's student population is global which makes the breadth of an organization like Habitat a natural fit. "Anywhere in the world where an Ashworth student is studying, more than likely there is a local Habitat chapter welcoming our student's time and resources," Keisling added.

"We are grateful for our continuing partnership with Ashworth College," said Bill Campbell, Engagement Specialist for Habitat for Humanity International. "We are two institutions focused on people bettering themselves through hard work."

Ashworth College has long been a supporter of social causes including Children's Miracle Network, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, March of Dimes, and Operation Homefront.
